Someone tried to break my parents car window while she was driving!!?
First, side windows are very strong and the curvature of the glass is the reason for that, a curve creates strength, you often have to use hard force or a blunt heavy object to break a window. Two - She should absolutely report it to the police - some nut is running around assaulting vehicles - he's a danger, and the police should know about it. Three - if you are in danger you need to do what you can to protect yourself, whatever it is, even breaking the law - protect yourself first. Yes, the car who backed out saw what was coming and moved out of range. AND always, always, always keep all your doors locked no matter what time of day or night.

Smaller than a border collie.. bigger than a papillon?
Does anyone have a good recommendation for a dog? I LOVE the way border collies look and how smart they are, but I don't have enough room for one. Same thing goes for papillons, I adore them, but I'd like a little bit sturdier of a dog. Any suggestions?
Agility? Australian Shepherd or Papillon?
The Pap is ranked in the top ten in Dr Coren's dog intelligence book and the AS is not, but they are also highly intelligent dogs to be sure. I think it is largely a matter of do you want a small dog or a big one? I would go with the Papillon, but I am biased as that is my breed. I did train a Pap for agility and he caught on like wildfire, but it was a UD dog. We never competed, I just did the agility & some freestyle to give him something challenging to do while we were working on his championship. (Yeah, I do it backwards) Another advantage to the Pap is they live longer and you can compete longer w/ them. You might also look at Shelties and Border Collies as they also excel at agility. I pick the Pap, but you can do well with either.
Which dog out of these would suit me the best?
A lab and a golden might need too much exercise for a small house and a small yard but it could work if you are high energy too and willing to commit to a lot of long walks/runs. Never get a dog that is higher energy than you are. You won't be able to keep up. Beagles howl and love to wander, they also need a lot of exercise. Cavs need less exercise but are still spaniels and like a good long walk and to chase. This might be the quietest of all the breeds you mentioned. Poms and paps probably need less exercise yet. Yet, both of these breed can yappy- but some can be trained not to. Honestly, I'd go witha shih tzu or shih tzu mix- quiet, not high energy, low shed (depending on what they are mixed with), easy going, very low prey dive and generally likes everyone.
